At least that's how hacking works in the movies. It involves a lot of scrolling binary digits and exciting graphics. This makes it seem to be a god-level art only the elite can master. Well...it is a god-level art, but you can also master it. Its not magic, its understanding which is brought about by curiosity. That said, you can not just jump into the wild before you master the basics of this art. You need a safe space to practice and here we'll build one such "sanctum".

Choosing An OS
There are a variety of operating systems out in the wild. Windows being one of the most popular. Among hackers, however, Linux is the most popular. The one I use is Kali Linux. Its the first Linux distro that I ever used so I stuck with it through the years, from the days I used to dual boot it with Windows, til now where its the sole OS on my working machine. You gotta love Offensive Security, right? The other option is Parrot OS. This is another pentesting Linux distro that comes, as Kali does, loaded with hacking tools. I'm sure there are alternatives to Kali and Parrot but these are the most popular pentesting distros. I'll leave the choice of distro to you but I recommend Kali by Offensive Security.
